Carl Piaf BSc MSc PhD ABD
An AI specialist, educator, and researcher with decades long experience of AI programming, neuroscience research and psychology education, Carl has been exploring the interface between data and behavioural sciences since the 1980s. He began his postgraduate career as a systems developer for fortune 500 companies, returning to education in machine learning and deep learning at its birth. His earliest work was in unsupervised and reinforcement learning, but even back then, he programmed supervised learning networks which are now the mainstay of much deep learning. He has specialized in teaching consumer and organizational psychology and the application of deep learning technologies in these fields. He is both an educator and an implementor, teaching others more about consumer behaviour and behaviour in organizations, as well as programming data science and deep learning solutions in Python and Tensorflow. As well as his role as an IT project manager, systems developer and educator, he also has many years experience leading educator teams in various countries. His international experience covers the UK, Sweden, Thailand, Canada, the Philippines, India, Guatemala and Nepal.

Carl has Fortune 500 experience working for, among others, Trilogy inc., Sema Group, and Lanner Group. Clients in these roles include Ericsson, Geest, Novartis and Ford Motor Company. During these roles, Carl worked both as a systems developer and project manager, managing multimillion dollar projects as diverse as systems development for online configuration in telecommunications and the automotive industry, production scheduling in the food industry, delivery optimization in shipping and hospital-based medical information acquisition and monitoring.
The Psychology of Learning
As well as his knowledge of machine learning, and IT systems development, Carl has a profound interest in human learning. As part of understanding the diverse approaches to learning that different disciplines require, he has personally developed a large array of skills, from playing multiple instruments, a variety of human languages, juggling and gymnastics. He is an avid song writer, musician and performer, skills which translate well into educational and public speaking settings.
